Course Overview
12 weeks course curriculum
By the time you have completed the whole course, you will be able to understand beginner level Japanese, and you will have covered the material needed to be able to take JLPT N5 (Japanese Language Proficiency Test).
The course will show you how to:
- Read and write Japanese Hiragana and Katakana
- Learn 80 kanji and also to read and write them
- Learn 1,000 vocabulary words and be able to use
- Read and understand simple short sentences.
- Ask about transportation and directions
- How to ask for things/do shopping in Japan
- Understand simple conversations that are often encountered in Japanese everyday life.
- Express your will and opinions in situations that you often encounter in everyday life.
Overview
There will be lessons and course materials for a total of 12 weeks, with lessons planned for each day of the week Mon-Fri. Lessons begin when you enroll, with 5 days of lessons being released each week until all the course days are live, but don't worry if you can't commit to doing each lesson as it goes live as you have six months to complete the entire course content.
Time scale
To do a whole days lesson and complete the homework, should take approximately 3-4 hours. By completing the whole course you will have completed a minimum of 150 hours of study recommended achieving beginner-level Japanese.
Lesson Format
Each day has lessons on Hiragana, Katakana or Kanji, a vocabulary worksheet, 3-5 conversation videos, grammar worksheets to support the conversation videos, plus repetition and practice videos, all designed to help you build up your Japanese level as quickly and effectively as possible.
Course tests
There will be three different course tests, one at week 3, one at week 8, and one at week 12. Each test will take you through a random selection of material on the course that you have learned until that point so that we can check your understanding and progress.
Support
Throughout the course that you can interact with the course leaders, teachers. and other students during the entire length of the course in the student community. If you have questions about any of the lessons, how the platform works, or just want to practice what you've learned, the community is the place to go to get support.
